Leslie in panto at The Stag Theatre,Sevenoaks, Kent

9 December 2011 - 1 January 2012

Box Office : 01732 450175

Leslie Grantham - aka Dirty Den from Eastenders - heading to Sevenoaks Stag as panto star Add your comments Legendary soap villain Leslie Grantham, who played Dirty Den Watts in Eastenders, has been unveiled as the big name star at this year's Christmas panto in Sevenoaks.

The star will play the Demon King in Mother Goose at the Stag Theatre, running from December 9, 2011 to January 1, 2012. Mr Grantham shot to fame as devious Den and was the main character in some of the most memorable story lines the soap has seen. The Christmas Day episode where he delivered divorce papers to long-suffering wife Angie was viewed by half of the entire population of the UK. Now a regular on the panto circuit, he has played a host of venues in recent years including shows at Nottingham, Plymouth, St Albans, and Wolverhampton.

Panto producer Jamie Wilson, returning for the third successive year to stage the Christmas show in Sevenoaks, said: "Securing the actor who played the legendary Den Watts for Sevenoaks is massive news for the town, and very exciting for me personally. "I remember seeing him play Captain Hook in panto when I was around 10 years old. It was one of the moments that made me such as fan of pantomime, and to be able to bring him to Sevenoaks, and work with him on my own production, is incredible. He was fantastic in the panto back then, and I’m sure he’ll be fantastic in Mother Goose." Joining Mr Granthan on the bill will be Terrence Hardiman, who played the title role in the children’s tv show The Demon Headmaster.

He will be playing the grumpy but lovable Squire Skinflint. More recently, he was in Doctor Who, playing Hawthorne in the episode The Beast Below. Award winning British soul singer Nate James, who has had chart success all over the world and sold more than a quarter of a million albums to date, also joins the cast as principal boy Colin Goose.

Last year, the Stag’s panto broke box office records, and this year, over a thousand tickets have already been sold. Stag chief executive, Linda Larter, said "In such a short time the pantomimes at the Stag have gained an amazing reputation, as the pre-sales are demonstrating. We are confident that the producers will deliver another excellent show, not to be missed."

Leslie Grantham signs up to Star College campaign

The Citizen and Gloucestershire Echo today launch the Be a Star for Star campaign to overturn a Government decision not to award vital cash to the National Star College.

Former EastEnders actor Leslie Grantham is the first "star" to back the campaign, which hopes to pressure Prime Minister Gordon Brown to reverse the decision not to award more than £6 million funding.

The actor has good reason to support the cause because his youngest son, Danny, was born with Down's syndrome.

Now he is urging others to put their names to the online petition submitted to the Government, which nearly 3,000 people have signed up to.

Leslie said: "I'm urging everyone to back the Be a Star for Star campaign. This is a cause that's close to my heart.

"I'd encourage everyone to join in and sign the petition to the Prime Minister, lobby their MPs and make representations to overturn the decision to halt this much needed funding.

"It's obvious to me that the Government's priorities are in the wrong place. Having a disabled child myself, I fully understand the frustrations of the National Star College.

"I urge the Government to pull its finger out and keep its pledge to provide the funding as promised, and in so doing make the lives of all who benefit from the National Star College that much better."

Helen Sexton, principal of the college, said: "We're thrilled that Leslie and so many other people are signing up for the petition and that the Echo and The Citizen titles are helping us in the campaign.

HANDS UP if you remember the moment Grant rumbled Phil and Sharon's steamy affair? Terrific TV often involves secret sexploits coming to the surface with the guilty party being caught with their pants down.

From the deafening drums of Eastenders to the lush lyrics of Neighbours, there's nothing quite like a good soap opera to keep you on the edge of your seat.

When it comes to seducing a friend's girlfriend, having an unplanned pregnancy, or battling the booze, nobody does it better than soap stars at the top of their game.

MY Sun users have been casting their votes on the nation's top TV talent and here is their Number One..................

1 - Dirty Den

A whopping 30.1 million viewers watched Dirty Den hand Angie her divorce papers after he found out his missus had been telling porkies about having terminal cancer.
